A TRIP TO WROCLAW

A TRIP TO WROCLAW – EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE 2016

Erasmus + teachers from Croatia, Turkey and Poland visited Wroclaw on 19 June 2016.
Even if our foreign guests have heard little to nothing about the city before, they were not disappointed after discovering these places:
1. WROCLAW ZOO-the oldest zoo in Poland
We saw brand new to the zoo, the impressive African aquarium complex. Three levels of exhibits focussed on the diverse water environments of Africa, including hippos, sharks, crocodiles and penguins.

2. CENTENNIAN HALL-the place of exhibitions
The city`s Unesco World  Heritage site surrounded by beautiful parks, gardens with the multimedia Pergola fountain.

3. JAPANESE GARDEN
We were walking in the garden established in 1913. It was nice to discover its system of small streams, cascades and ponds.

4. SAND BRIDGE AND TUMSKI BRIDGE
We went over Sand Bridge the oldest one in Wroclaw, built in 1861 and Tumski bridge which led us to the oldest part of the city called Ostrow Tumski. We placed the pink padlock on the bridge to celebrate our Erasmus + meeting.

5. OSTROW TUMSKI- CATHEDRAL ISLAND
The soul of Wroclaw. It was the first part of Wroclaw to be settled by Slavic tribes in the 9th century. We visited this important place of royal and religious significance with many churches.

6. SLODOWA ISLAND
It was great to be there on the island  between the city`s two banks. We liked this green area and popular venue for summer concerts.

7. STARE JATKI
A wonderful street with its medieval character. In past times the principal industry here was meat-today it is home to numerous artists studios and souvenirs stalls.

8. WROCLAW GNOMES
We were looking for small statues of gnomes dotting doorway, alleyways and street corners. There are about 300 in Wroclaw. You can pick up a special map showing where to find 30 of the most centrally located gnomes.

We hope our guests fell in love with Wroclaw!
